Robert Alan Smith
(1927-2008)
Born in 1927 in Pasadena, California, Smith lived and worked within 100 miles of his birthplace for the majority of his life. Living a dual lifestyle as animator and fine artist, Smith studied at several notable institutions such as the Chouinard Art Institute (now Otis College) in Los Angeles, and the Escuela Universitaria de Bellas Artes, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. His work has exhibited in The Smithsonian and the Library of Congress, and has been featured in one-man shows at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, the Pasadena Art Museum (now the Norton Simon Museum of Art), and many galleries in the Los Angeles area. He died in 2008.
The original mid-century serigraphs (silkscreen prints) below are authentic, limited edition prints from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Most are pencil-signed by the artist, along with the number of prints in the edition and the year they were produced. Smith's editions were generally limited to fewer than 60 hand-pulled silkscreens.
